Native Revegetation Planting

Native Planting

New Zealand is home to a rich variety of native plants, including countless species of trees, shrubs, and plants. These indigenous species often require careful handling and specific planting techniques, as they can be sensitive to their environment. Ensuring proper management from the beginning is essential for their successful growth and establishment. With extensive expertise Manawa Landcare is a leader in native revegetation.

Our knowledgeable team is equipped with the right tools and insights to guarantee that your forest management or planting initiatives are carried out with precision, resulting in high survival rates for the plants. We cater to both large and small-scale native planting projects, whether or not you require landscape design services.

Our experience encompasses a wide range of sectors within the tree planting and landscaping field, including:

  • Beautification of motorways and highways
  • Restoration of riparian zones
  • Environmental mitigation efforts
  • Estuarine habitat enhancement
  • Wastewater treatment ponds
  • Subdivisions
  • Commercial and civil projects
  • Wetland restoration projects
  • Establishing shelterbelts

Project Feature: Turning a Wild Block into a Native Retreat – Te Horo, Kapiti

Earlier this year, a couple in Te Horo approached Manawa Landcare with a vision — to transform the overgrown back section of their 10-acre lifestyle block into a beautiful, low-maintenance native retreat. The area was once filled with gorse, blackberry, and unmanaged scrub, making it unusable and difficult to access.

After a full site visit and consultation, we developed a tailored plan that balanced their goals for privacy, low maintenance, and ecological enhancement. Our team cleared the site, installed natural pathways, and planted over 1,800 eco-sourced native plants, including karamu, manuka, kanuka, harakeke, ti kauka, koromiko, and native sedges to bring texture and seasonal interest.

We also incorporated visual screening along the boundary to block neighbouring views, creating a private, serene outdoor space that flows with the natural contours of the land.

Three months later, the area has taken on a new life. The transformation has not only improved the aesthetics and functionality of their block but also increased its long-term value.

“It’s now a place we actually use and enjoy. Manawa Landcare understood exactly what we wanted — natural, simple, and beautiful” (Alan & Anna).
